The Afghanistan players have been practicing hard in order to overcome the odds. They believe that they can win this World Cup and go on a major tournament run like what India did back when it was hosted by them at their home soil.
The Afghanistan national cricket team has been drawn in a tough group at this year's Twenty20 World Cup, and they will need to rely heavily on their wily spinners and aggressive batsmen if they want any chance of moving forward. The team was originally slotted into what many considered an easy Group A alongside India, the for champion.
The Afghans were touted as dark horses at the recent Asia Cup, but they lost their super four stage match against Sri Lanka and also to Pakistan and India. Skipper Nabi nonetheless took some positives out of it: "As a unit we showed in this tournament that Afghanistan has quality batsmen," he said while addressing reporters after losing badly on home soil where runs flow like water." We are known for defending totals not chasing them so our team balance is good enough right now"
Their aggressive approach to batting could cause problems for the Black Caps. The Melbourne pitch does take turn and they have some good left-arm pacers in Fazalhaq Farooqi, Fareed Ahmad as well which will be tough if New Zealand wants an easy game.
